Had been to Dipex, a State Level Project Competition @COEP. With projects from all over that state the competition was one hell-of-a-battle ground for college projects and presentation. There were about 1500+ projects and company showcase projects. Out of this DRDO’s had the most eye catching projects displayed. Believe me they called it a project. It was the DRDO’s bomb disposal robot “Daksh” and surveillence Quadcopter “Netra”
DRDO Daksh
The DRDO’s daksh one Kick-ass Bad robot. Daksh is a battery-operated remote-controlled robot on wheels and its primary role is to recover bombs. Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation, it is fully automated. It can climb staircases, negotiate steep slopes, navigate narrow corridors and tow vehicles to reach hazardous materials. Using its robotized arm, it can lift a suspect object and scan it using its portable X-Ray device. If the object is a bomb, Daksh can defuse it with its water jet disrupter. It has a shotgun(yeah yeah the Hollywood style..!!) , which can break open locked doors, and it can scan cars for explosives. With a master control station (MCS), it can be remotely controlled over a range of 500 m in line of sight or within buildings.

Here’s a video
DRDO Netra
The Netra or “the 3-idiots wala helicopter ” (that’s how most people like to call it) It is an Indian, light-weight, Autonomous UAV for surveillance and reconnaissance operations. It has been jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Research and Development Establishment (R&DE),and IdeaForge, a Mumbai-based private firm.
